Just before sleep the other night, I laid my head on my husbands chest and listened to his heartbeat. I stared up at the wide open sky at all of the stars that were visible from our boondocking spot outside of Bryce Canyon in Utah.
It occurred to me that for over a month I have not fallen asleep with Matt, nor have I seen a star in the sky. Surely there must be stars in Vegas. Perhaps I never looked up? Maybe they aren’t visible from all the lights?
Either way, I really appreciated the moment. The steady thump of Matt’s heart. A million stars in the sky. The dogs snoring. The entire living content of Dolly on the verge of peaceful sleep.
I began to reflect on Vegas and wanted to share my experience with you… (wavy lines…flashback…cue the music…wavy lines…)
Vegas for me was a bit rough. As I said Matt and I were on totally different schedules. He would leave sometime between 10 and noon and would not come back until 6am most days. I would stay up late till around midnight or sometimes later so I could sleep in. The days were so hot in Vegas that it was hard to do much of anything until the evening. So I would try to sleep in and then be RV bound till the evening. Some days I didn’t leave at all because it was just way too hot.
It wasn’t all bad though, see my video montage! We had a string of family and friends that either live there or were visiting and so we got to see and catch up with a lot of people from home. It was really nice to have those small connections to San Diego. :) I also got to experience some really fun Vegas days and nights. As I have mentioned before, I love going to the pool. Usually, I don’t get in the pool because I don’t like the chlorine, but when the temps are soaring over 100, I’m the first to dive right in. There was an abundance of sweet, delicious, ice cold beverages and I found a new love for A/C.
Vegas is an amazing city to visit…in the spring or fall…for about 2-3 days…a couple times a year. I’ve had my fill for 2011 and maybe 2012 too. Matt loves it there, and I know he’s already eager and excited to get back. We’ll see how I feel when the time comes to make plans to head back to Sin City.

When I came back to the present I realized the stars were gone, my eyes had closed in anticipation of sleep. Just before nodding off I thanked God for the promise of a sunrise (though I slept right through it!)
